About Us

At Indigo Wholefoods we offer ethical products with a service to match and our affordable, competitive prices won’t break the bank.

Our Values:

Ethics – we consider the implications of our business actions on other people, businesses and the environment around us.

Friendliness– we welcome everyone with a smile and like to know our customers by name to give them an individual shopping experience.

Knowledge – whether it is product queries, recipe ideas, health questions or nutritional advice our experienced staff are ready to help you.

Value for Money - we follow our suppliers recommended selling prices and are cheaper than many stores for the same products.  We firmly believe that success comes from building a wide base of satisfied customers rather than charging those who already support us more.  In addition we have Five Great Ways to Save to support our valued customers.

Dedication to Moseley – Moseley is our home as well as our place of work. Helping to generate a successful, diverse, vibrant and ethical Moseley business community is our goal.

We are passionate about the products we sell – whether they are organic, fair-trade, special diet, beneficial to health or the environment, or they simply taste nice we believe that each product we sell supports, in different ways, the health and happiness of the human race.

Our Directors:

George Howell – Managing Director

George is a highly experienced manager, book-keeper and general administrator of wholefood shops. He was a founding member of Sage Wholefoods (Moseley) Limited and worked there for nine years between 1997 and 2006. In addition to this George has worked in the organic industry since 1995 as a member of Organic Roundabout Limited and latterly as an employee of Kitchen Garden Café Limited.

Indigo Wholefoods has given George an opportunity to once again return to his greatest vocational passion – retailing health foods to the people of Moseley.

Jane Howell – Company Director

Jane was a founding member of Sage Wholefoods (Moseley) Limited and had two periods of employment there firstly between 1997 and 1999, and between 2000 and 2002, almost five years in total. During the 1980’s Jane was chairperson at Friends of the Earth Birmingham and she has been a committed recycler and environmentalist for many years. Professionally Jane has spent her working life as a teacher and most recently as a visitor assistant at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, in which role she also performed the duties of Shop Steward.  Jane will be George Howell’s assistant shop manager on a part-time basis.  Her experience as a member of the Sage co-operative combined with years of working with members of the public and her commitment to the local community make her an ideal member of the Indigo team.

Henrietta Lockhart – Company Director

Henrietta was also a founding member of Sage Wholefoods (Moseley) Limited and spent over two years at Sage between 1997 and 1999. Since leaving Sage Henrietta has spent much of her time studying the history of art and museum studies and has recently been appointed Curator of Social History at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Henrietta's role at Indigo will be to serve as a company director and take part in board meetings. Her experience will be invaluable in terms of presentation, publicity design, and management. Henrietta’s commitment to the local community and local business is such that this is an unpaid role in addition to her full time employment.
